I hope everyone has a lovely holiday. Enjoy the time with your loved ones and be happy and healthy!

I’ve been so focused on trying to make pretty, baubbly jewelry lately that I had forgotten that there is a whole darker side of artistic creations. Early this morning, I discovered quite a gem while searching for examples of skulls (I wanted to make hubby a x-mas present) made with polymer clay. Hidden Missives has created some not so pretty, and quite fantastic morbid heads of fictitious or maybe not fictitious dead people.
Mr. Jay King, the creator of these amazing faces sent me a link to Skull-A-Day.
If you scroll down the page, there is a tooth that was carved into a skull with a Dremmel tool. What a skull of a find!!!
Maybe it’s just the sound of my coffee maker dripping. OH MY GOSH, it is raining!!! Every time there is a forecast for rain, I get so excited, only to see tiny, tiny droplets falling on the ground. When I read about snow storms and such elsewhere, I just get so jealous in a way. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade the mild California weather for anything, but it would be nice to have some heavy rain come our way. Brennan has this Diego umbrella, that I bought him a couple years ago, and I think he has only used it like twice.
I can’t believe Christmas is next week. I just sent out my cards yesterday. Today I have to send a few packages, in addition to Brennan’s birthday invites. I can’t believe he is turning five next month. As Brennan would say, “What the Heck!” That’s his latest response to everything.
Speaking of sayings, Elden will say this word that he made up, “Bobbilah”. I have no idea what it means, but he will say it at these random times. If I ask him what something is in a book and he doesn’t know what it is, he will say it. Also, we have been getting him to say please. It all started before we go to bed, and he wants water, he would say, no actually, he would scream “More water”! But now, since we have been getting him to say please, he will say “Please, can mumble I have water, please!” And if he will repeat the please at the end. But now when he wants something, we ask him can you ask nicely, and he will answers the same, “Please, can mumble I have water, please!” and then laugh. So he got the please down, but now he just need to ask for the right thing.
So his potty training is coming along, but the only thing is he doesn’t want to wear his underwear because he says the tag is too itchy. I bought him some cool Elmo ones, but he refuses for the life of me to wear them. I am hesitant to have him pick out new ones because I don’t want him to refuse those as well. That would be just a waste. And of course, being the good mother that I am, I don’t want to force him, but I am tired of having to change his diaper, after he makes that one pee. At home he will usually go on the toilet. This is with number two as well, and even sometimes, if he is with Den and Brennan outside of the home, he will want to go on the toilet.
So early in December, I started to work on this Advent calendar idea with polymer clay, thinking that it would be at least finished the first week, but of course, I had hit some technical snags with it. I have yet to finish it, but of course, the kids won’t be able to enjoy it this year. I do see some interesting ideas for a spin off of this piece for some kind of interesting wall art. We will see what turns out.
Oh, the little kid is awake.
I’m back! The Polymer Clay Carnival was amazing! I learned so much more than my mind can process. Not only were the instructors so talented, but there were so many creative people there as well. I have realized that I have only just touched the surface of this wonderful medium that I just merely started to learn in February of this year.
The kids and den had a fun time bonding and spending them together as well over the weekend. Santa Clause came by in his sled, but Den didn’t have his camera with him.
More to write when I get a chance, but I just realized this morning that Elden has a Dr’s appt. at 9:30 and it is now 9:02.
Here are some pictures that I took of the Clay
Carnival. If anyone has pictures from the pizza party, I would to see them because I ran out of memory in my camera.
I leave you with a quote from Donna Kato (this is what she wrote in my copy of her book “The Art of Polymer Clay”) – “Make Art from the heart… The journey is the goal”.
