first rain

Yesterday we were blessed with some rain. I think it did rain a couple nights ago, but I don’t really think it counts because it was more like a drizzle that lasted about 2 minutes. Brennan has been anticipating the rain for the last week or so, since he kept hearing that it was going to rain. When he noticed that it started raining later in the morning, he was excited. He called to me, actually it was more screaming to me to get his umbrella and rain shoes and then Den took the boys outside to play for a bit. I was still in my pj’s, but I did peep out the front door to take a couple photos.

BTW, I am contemplating about about purchasing a digital SLR. I have borrowed my dad’s Canon, but I really need to upgrade this one that I have now. It is a point and shoot and although it take relatively decent photos, I am really missing a nice macro and the ability to go manual when need be. Also, I want to take better photos of my artwork, like nice closeup details of stuff, which I can’t do with this current camera. Den got me this after I broke one 2 cameras, and lost another one. But now that I am making some money of my own, I feel like I should invest in one. I am not actually sure if I really want a SLR, or just to stay with a higher end point and shoot, that still have the capabilities to go manual. But of course, I would love have the option to be able to use different lenses. I am not planning to go pro or anything, but you know, I just love having toys.

I have been very busy this month. I think more than I really want to be. My Archival class is kicking my ass. There is so much reading to do.

I am almost done with building the Career Info Center. Right now, I am trying to get some videos to stream from SL. I was deeded a parcel of land, which since I am planning to stream about 7 vids, I have to subdivide the land.

Anyways, check out this article that was posted at San Jose SLIS site. Scroll to the bottom of the article and you will see the SLURL for the Career Information Center. It is still a work in progress, but you will find lots of information there. And if you haven’t already signed up for a free account at Second Life, then you really should. Sign up now and the on Tuesday around 8:00 go check out the SLIS Island. I am also a tour guide on the campus, so come find me if you want to chat.

As far as tv shows are concerned, I am seriously looking forward to watching Peter Krause’s new show “Dirty, Sexy, Money” which airs on Wednesday. I am just barely able to watch “Sports Night”, which a friend of mine lent to me. But I will definitely be recording the episodes to watch in the near future.

Brennan is pretty much enjoying his school, although anytime I ask him something about it, he answers me with either saying poopoo or some strange thing like that. Kid’s are so weird. Other than that, he is pretty happy when I come to pick him up. Wednesdays they walk a few buildings over to the local library, which he loves. Elden gets dropped off a couple hours each day at the childcare at the Y, while I get to exercise and soak in the pool and sauna. He is doing really well there, but every time I go to drop him off, he cries and hangs onto me. But when I am gone, the day care people tell me that he is just fine. He seems to be because I don’t ever get called, and he is happy and playing when I get back to pick him up.

I haven’t been able to craft as much as I want to lately, but I did play a little bit with some PC yesterday. This week sometime, I am planning to finish up the CJ’s that I have been holding onto, as well as scrap a page or two, and start up a project that I have been wanting to do.

I still have my copy of HP’s “Deathly Hollows”, still sitting on the table next to couch unread, except like two chapters. Very sad, ain’t it? I finally downloaded Obama’s “Audacity of Hope”, maybe I will listen to it while working out this week.

Baby Love

I should have titled this piece Chunky Love instead of Baby Love. This picture of Elden was taken on August 12, 2005. He was about a month old. He has grown into such the sweetest little toddler.

The background is about 10 layers of gesso, cream paint, and pearl white paint. Perhaps even a tone of red, but I forgot if I did or not. Also, layered several strips of lacy white paper that I found in a huge portofolio folder bag, back in my art school days. Stamped with the every so wonderful YanKiwi. The baby and cherish words are also YanKiwi.

Here are a few cards that I made a couple of weeks ago, but never got a chance to post up here.

This morning I was going through pictures from the summer because I had to print a picture for Brennan’s cubby at school, and realized that I really didn’t take that many pictures this past summer. I really love photography, and I am usually obsessed with taking pictures of the boys, but I guess my mind has been elsewhere.

This is one of my favorite photo of the boys from the summer. This happened to taken at McDonalds about a month ago.

african and asian influence

The hollow bead is mixed with gold and brown Premo polymer clay. I need to take a close up of the details of the hollow bead. Gold seed beads were embedded onto a small cane and clear liquid clay was dabbed on. The rest of the necklace is made with matching beads, YanKiwi GWO’s – vintage mini African ostrich eggs, and champagne beads. The clasp is made up vintage African coconut shell discs. Also, I made a clay impression of a GWO botanical button, but I didn’t get a good shot of it.

Anyways, we didn’t do much over the Labor Day weekend. We pretty much just tried to stay cool. It actually hit the 90’s out here, which is hot when you don’t have an air conditioner to turn.

I was happy to hear that the 19 remaining Korean missionaries were released. It sort of hits home because one of my cousin’s husband’s friend was one of the hostages.

Five days a week for 3 1/2 hours without Brennan. What am I going to do with myself? Goodness!

I met the fine ladies of YanKiwi last year at the Carson Rubberstamping show. I am so impressed with their rubberstamps. They are deeply etched which is perfect for polymer clay. I love the unique patterns and styles as well.

They sent me a nice package of their rubbers stamps and Gorgeous Wee Ones (GWO’s) to play with. I will posting some creations this month. And not just polymer clay stuff, but journal entries, scrapbook layouts, atc’s, mini albums, and whatever else I can come up with. So look forward to some eye candy here.
